As we enter the holiday season — a time of reflection, gratitude, and connection — I want to speak personally and from the heart.
Many people are surprised to learn that the Tutu Foundation UK does not have an endowment. It was not established with family wealth or institutional funding, but through the vision and generosity of dear friends of my grandparents, the late Very Reverend Colin Slee and his wife, Edith Slee. My grandparents gave their blessing and their name, but not financial resources. From its beginning, the Foundation has depended on the kindness of individuals and partners who share a belief in the transformative power of dialogue and Ubuntu.
That is still true today. Every roundtable we hold — where young people, community members, and police officers come together in honest, often challenging conversation — happens because someone believes that healing and trust are possible.
