An Important Statement from our Chairman Clive Conway

Jul 24, 2025 | Uncategorized

Dear friends of the Tutu Foundation UK,

After ten deeply fulfilling years as Chair of the Tutu Foundation UK, I believe the time has come to begin the process of identifying and transitioning my responsibilities to a new Chair in the coming months. Words cannot fully express how much I have loved serving in this role. It has been a privilege to work alongside such a dedicated and talented Board, and to help nurture the legacy of Archbishop Desmond Tutu and the spirit of Ubuntu in everything we do.

Although I will step back from the Chair role, and stand down also as Trustee, to give a new Chair the maximum possible space to assume the role, I remain fully committed to TFUK and will continue to support our work in the background – with my ideas, networks, and full encouragement for what lies ahead.

As a next step, I would encourage my two Vice Chairs, Gary and Miguel, to work with all of you, perhaps through a Search Committee or Trustees subcommittee, in identifying a suitable successor. It is of course not for me to say what the key characteristics might be for a new Chair although I would be happy to make a note of what the key dimensions of the role have been for me. We now have a superb team of Trustees, and all the potential is there for a strong and sustainable future. To that end, I would also suggest us to consider identifying an executive assistant or a project manager as soon as possible to help support and advance our vision.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to me directly – I am always here for any conversation or support needed. There is so much joy to reflect on from my time with TFUK, but those stories can wait for another day. I would hope that a new Chair could be in post by the middle of next year.

Kindest wishes

Clive Conway ARAM
